The social issues caused by this are yet to be fully studied, but, for example, researchers believe that increased Instagram use among teens creates a higher risk of depression, anxiety and low-self esteem.

A Dove sponsored study found that not only do young women spend more time on social media, roughly half of the teens they interviewed indicated that this activity directly impacts their mental health.
